Coming into womanhood in the emancipated, atheistic, equal rights Sweden in the seventies gave me much freedom, sexual, financial and carrier wise, for which I am immensely grateful. I look forward to the day all my sisters around the world can enjoy the same basic equal rights and respect as Scandinavian women do.
I took advantage of my freedom; traveling, exploring life and sex, expressing my gifts in the world and enjoying success. I joined the budding New Age movement in Sweden, and found an Indian guru, Osho Rajneesh, with whom I studied meditation and spiritual growth for five years. I was part of many incredible, powerful women’s circles, from single-moms vegetarian cooking teams, to sharing groups and “explore-your-G-spot” type of groups.
Still there was a place in my heart that carried grief and an unfulfilled longing. Much of my modern Western freedom seemed to be freedom from what is essentially feminine; deep emotions, unconditional love, devotion, creating beauty, chaos, intuition and the cycles of the seasons and life and death. I found some of those qualities in the Eastern spiritual practices but not enough to satisfy my longing heart.
The missing link was the Luna Women’s Network in Stockholm, Sweden, a unique and radical spiritual practice created by women, for women, and being practiced together with other women. The unfulfilled place that I had felt in most my female relationships was filled.
I am down on my hands and knees in gratitude to Susanna Nova (the founder of Luna), my “Godmother’s” and all my other sisters in Luna. During the two years I practiced with Luna, they held me in tender love and Kali fire, always pulling me into being more real, present and vulnerable as a woman. They activated the sweet fire of the feminine deep within my belly and healed my fear and mistrust of other women.
Then, perfectly guided by the big divine Mama, meeting Chameli and founding a women’s network here in Nevada City in northern California, has been pure grace and a wild, juicy gift. Chameli is my fiercely present, wild and always loving sister and my companion in the deep spiritual commitment to the feminine awakening. And she makes great coffee!
I am profoundly honored to now serve, together with Chameli, as a Temple Mama for the courageous, sweet and willing women in Nevada County, to transmit the gifts I have received and witness the feminine being born in new and unique forms through us as we guide new women into the feminine spiritual practices.
Here are practices that do not involve endless sharing of personal stories and problems, expressing emotions in order to get rid of them or analyzing or trying to understand ourselves and our men with the mind.
Here is a wild, juicy ride where we connect beyond the mind and the limited personality. Here we nourish each other through our bodies and hearts and celebrate the gifts we are by simply being alive as radiant, soft women.
Instead of analyzing our shortcomings and intending to change, heal or shift things we gather to celebrate our strengths, beauty and gifts. We gather to pray and worship each other as divine incarnations and try to dare to love each other fully, all the way without holding anything back. We see each other deeply and clearly and filled each other with feminine juice.
This type of women’s work, of feminine spiritual practices, expands beyond the old image of women as co-dependant victims, emotionally needy, unfulfilled, requiring support and attention. We don’t move into the “I am completely independent and I can be like any man” kind of attitude, but through exploring practices that fill us up directly from source, we move into our own overflowing divine feminine nature, into the parts of us that are whole, fulfilled, assertive, divine, juicy and clear.
I had passed forty before I finally “figured out” what it means to be a real woman, how to give my physical beauty as a gift without being a sex object, how to be simultaneously free and utterly devoted, assertive and immensely vulnerable, clear and deeply emotional, equal and able to surrender when I chose to. To finally be able to be and fully give what my true essence is: love. Thank you, big Mama.
